Dubai: RTA rolls out four new bus routes, revamps over 70 services
Peak-hour services target congestion relief and improved commuter efficiency
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to further expand Dubai’s public transport network with the introduction of four new public bus routes and a wide-ranging upgrade of more than 70 existing services.
The changes, effective from January 9, form part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, improve connectivity, and better serve commuters during peak travel hours.
The latest initiative focuses on improving route coverage and streamlining bus operations, particularly during the morning and evening rush periods. By adjusting route alignments, revising timetables, and optimising stop sequences, RTA aims to ensure smoother journeys and a more reliable experience for daily passengers. The authority said the measures align with its broader vision of becoming the world leader in seamless and sustainable mobility.
New routes
At the centre of the rollout are four new peak-hour bus routes designed to support existing high-demand services operating between Al Satwa, Jumeirah, and Al Wasl. These routes will function in single directions during specific times of the day to improve flow and reduce congestion on established lines.
Route 88A will operate in one direction from Al Satwa Bus Station to Jumeirah 3 during the morning peak period, supporting the operational efficiency of Route 88. Its counterpart, Route 88B, will run in the opposite direction from Jumeirah 3 to Al Satwa Bus Station during the evening peak period, addressing commuter demand at the end of the working day.
Similarly, Route 93A will provide a one-direction morning service from Al Satwa Bus Station to Al Wasl, while Route 93B will operate in the reverse direction during the evening peak, connecting Al Wasl to Al Satwa Bus Station. RTA said the introduction of these targeted services will help balance passenger loads and improve punctuality on heavily used corridors.
Route enhancements
Alongside the new services, RTA will implement a series of operational enhancements across more than 70 bus routes on the same date. These include running time adjustments, timetable updates, route realignments, depot changes, and corrections to stop sequences, all aimed at improving overall service efficiency and passenger convenience.
Several routes will see extensions to cover growing residential and commercial areas. Route 13A will be extended to Al Muhaisnah 2, 7th Street, while Route 55 will expand its reach within International City to Greece Cluster, K12. Route F39 will be extended to serve the Oud Al Muteena area, with three new bus stops added to improve access for residents.
In Dubai World Central, Route F55 will be expanded to cover additional areas within the cargo zone, supported by the addition of two new bus stops. Route F54 will be realigned to better serve the South Residential Area of Jebel Ali Free Zone, while removing stops along Al Munawalah Street that no longer align with demand patterns.
Stop changes
A number of routes will undergo stop additions and cancellations to reflect shifting passenger needs and infrastructure developments. On Route 6, two new stops will be added at Dubai People of Determination Center and Mayo Clinic, improving access to key healthcare and community facilities. Route 18 will also benefit from two new stops on 7A Street at Al Nahda Pond Park and MSB Private School.
Other changes include the addition of new stops at Museum of the Future on Route 29, Royal Bank of Scotland 1 in Dubai Outsource City on Route 36B, Al Jassmi Masjid 1 on Route F61, and VOGO Grand Hotel on Route 320. Routes E100 and E201 will see the relocation of the Max Metro Station bus stop from the former south stop to Al Jafiliya Bus Station, improving interchange efficiency.
Several stops will be cancelled as part of the rationalisation process. These include Emirates Towers 1 on Route 29, Shatha Tower on Route 83, Dubai Academic City 2 on Route 31, and Storm Coaster at Dubai Hills Mall on Route DH1. Additional cancellations affect routes C09, C15, F01, F46, F10, 21B, F26A, 12, and 93, with RTA citing improved alignment and service optimisation as key drivers.
Impact on passengers
RTA said the comprehensive set of changes is designed to reduce waiting times, provide additional trips during periods of high demand, and improve day-to-day mobility across the city. By refining routes and adjusting coverage, the authority aims to deliver a more consistent and user-friendly public transport experience for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and check updated route details through RTA’s S’hail app, which provides real-time information on bus schedules, routes, and service changes across Dubai’s public transport network.
